The 140 characters. The best Content Filter. So far...

As consumers of information we are very impatient. We want everything and we want it now. We need information as much as food.

On the other hand, people post information in Social Media in a volume never seen before. This is because people want to be recognized. We want to share what we are and we know in order to become more popular. And this is absolutely natural.

Thanks to these needs, people are devising ideas in social media to put information in our hands faster and cheaper. But, this appetite for information, the need of recognition and social media technology, has one collateral effect: we are overloaded.

Without really looking for this, Twitter with its 140 characters and the possibility of following people and tags is giving us a better information filter. Twitter is a very good tool to publish and read news because of the following reasons:

  • It is extremely small in functionalities and very easy to use.
  • 140 characters are very easy to read. We know if we are interested or not in the post in a fraction of a second.
  • 140 characters are easy to write.
  • There is always somebody else interested in the same things that we are. Following them, we receive information relevant to us.
  • Because we have only 140 characters, we must be very precise in our writing. Therefore if we follow and search for tags, we have a really high chance that we are going to get relevant results. Much more precise than a generic search engine, because people are pre-filtering.
  • We can keep conversations with people that share ours needs and feelings.
  • And even if it is a good marketing tool, I do not think people are using it because of that. I believe people are using it despite of that.
  • And last but not least, it became really popular

Information distribution and filtering is not a nice-to-have feature these days; it is imperative in today's economy.

That is the reason why the ga.tribes platform will launch first a content management application. The service will be able to distribute and filter content with very high precision, thanks to its exclusive Social Intelligence engine.

The service will be subscription based and will start to be offered to iphone users during January 2010. We will start posting notes about the functionality during the upcoming months. Stay in touch.
